Finnish technology company Finnforel has emerged as a pioneer in ecological fish farming since its establishment in 2017. The company is located in Varkaus, Northern Savonia, where its recirculating aquaculture system enables fish to grow in flowing water under precisely optimised conditions. The rapidly growing company opened Finland’s first broodstock and fry production facility focused on rainbow trout selection breeding in Hollola in 2023. This year, Finnforel increased its production capacity to three million kilograms with the introduction of the new Gigafactory. Finnforel products are widely sold in Finland in over a thousand grocery stores under the brand name Saimaan Tuore.

Mipro has played a significant role in Finnforel’s success story. During 2022–2023, Mipro supplied Finnforel with site-specific automation systems, which have played a significant role in the company’s growth and development.
The MISONET automation systems comprehensively monitor, control, and adjust the processes of Finnforel’s rainbow trout farming facilities. With these systems, Finnforel can precisely optimise the farming environment and ensure the well-being of the fish. The user-friendly interface’s individual functionalities were designed in collaboration with the client, ensuring that the system fully meets Finnforel’s needs and expectations.
Mipro’s automation systems are designed for high usability and reliability. The most critical components are duplicated, ensuring continuous system operation even in case of disruptions. Additionally, Mipro’s monitoring system continuously monitors the system’s usage and performance, ensuring that any issues are detected and corrected immediately.
The various subsystems of the facilities are connected to the MISONET automation system through the intelligent Mipro Core Platform. The platform allows data to be processed in a controlled and secure manner and also enables data collection, processing, and sharing with other parties as needed.

Finnforel’s goal is to revolutionise fish farming both domestically and internationally. Mipro’s innovative automation system enables ecological and sustainable fish farming, minimising environmental impact and maximising fish welfare. In the near future, the level of automation of the system will be gradually increased so that the system guides and assists the user more, providing action recommendations and performing more control and adjustment actions.
