Alongside interlocking and traffic control solutions, Mipro has delivered a significant number of level crossing systems across the Finnish and Estonian rail networks. The company has been supplying level crossing technology in Finland since 1995 and expanded its deliveries to Estonia in 2019.

Today, approximately 140 Mipro level crossing systems are in operation. Around two-thirds are integrated with interlocking systems, while the remaining installations operate as stand-alone solutions, providing flexibility for different operational and infrastructure requirements.

Mipro’s level crossing solution is designed for high availability and long-term reliability. Its redundant system architecture helps ensure continuous operation, while the PLC-based design utilises widely available commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. This approach supports a long lifecycle, simplifies maintenance, and enables a modular system structure that can be adapted to evolving customer needs.

Mipro’s level crossing system deliveries typically include for example:

• Design, materials and building of the system
• System software according to designs, taking into account the special requirements and features of each site
• Interfaces and required connections
• A datalogger system as part of the level crossing system
• On the Finnish market, a country specific fault transmission system as part of the LC system
• Track vacancy detection system with axle counters or track circuits.
