At Christmas time, we pause and reflect on the values that are meaningful and shared by us all. This Christmas, we are supporting the important work of the Muisti Centre of War and Peace in Mikkeli, whose core mission is to bring together research, science communication and education.
Muisti explores the themes of war and peace through interactive and digitally enhanced exhibitions grounded in contemporary scientific research. Muisti and the Headquarters Museum are located in a historic building in Mikkeli, the site where the Headquarters of the Finnish Defence Forces operated during the Second World War. While crucial wartime decisions were once made there, Muisti today is dedicated to promoting peace, democracy and critical thinking.
Through its exhibitions, original artefacts and the stories of those who experienced war, Muisti helps children and young people in particular to understand what everyday life during wartime was like and the long-term impacts of war on individuals and society. Learning at Muisti is experiential, participatory and emotionally engaging, strengthening empathy, media literacy, source criticism and responsible citizenship.
